Alas, I had no friends to chat all day on the telephone with

Who is Amethyst?

I’m just a person who’s trying to make sense of the world by writing.

Growing up, I wasn’t very good at socialising and many normal interactions with people confused me, which predictably meant I had very few friends. As you can probably imagine, being a loner kind of sucks, especially if you don’t know why people hate you. Was it something I said? Something I did? Was it because on the day of the interaction, mercury was in retrograde?

Not only did I have difficulties interacting with other people, but learning how to be a ‘proper human’ was super confusing as well. Apparently, there are rules that everyone is supposed to have picked up by a certain point and nobody thought to tell me about them. Things like how to read a room, what to say during disagreements so you don’t come across as rude, and when to tell little white lies. I was just expected to automatically know these things.

Of course, I didn’t know back then that I was on the autism spectrum (self-diagnosed, getting a proper diagnosis is super expensive as an adult) but my obvious lack of understanding on how to be a ‘proper human’ certainly made things a lot harder than they ought to be. But one thing gave me respite from the daily onslaught of confusion—writing.

Why Do You Write?

As mentioned above, I write so I can try to make sense of the world.

Things are constantly changing and if I’m thrown into certain situations, many of which are considered normal by regular folks, my brain overloads with information and I don’t have the capacity to sort out the useful from the junk. Writing allows me to sort through that info in the comfort of my own home where nothing is at stake, and therefore, I can properly think things through.

I can learn from my mistakes, try to predict how certain situations may evolve and how I should adapt to them next time. But more importantly, it satisfies my curiosity and I learn new things every time I write my stories. My characters are always teaching me stuff. It’s pretty cool.

Also, sometimes a person just needs a place to chill out where no one’s hostile to them. And if they are, they can always be killed…

Fun fact: I used to procrastinate during exam week by writing!
I write what I want (and also what I want to read)

What Kind of Stuff Do You Write?

Well, I started writing at the age of nine and my stories back then were about the ordinary lives of preteens. Then I wrote about teenagers when I became one. That seems to have stuck.

In addition to that, I also write about adults because, duh, I am one and adult life is confusing as hell. Heck, almost everything I write can broadly categorised in those three genres—Young Adult, New Adult, and Contemporary Adult.

There are a few differences though. For one, the vast majority of my protagonists are people of colour. Many of the supporting cast are people of colour too. I do my best to be respectful of these things because I’m a POC myself and I know how fucking disappointing it is to read books without characters who look like me and who aren’t stereotypes as well.

I also explore different sexualities especially within the context of racialised minorities (I do my best to be respectful there as well) and I’ve recently taken to writing about being on the autism spectrum. #ownvoices

What Is This Website About?

Novels by Amethyst is basically where I upload all the chapters of my novels online, kind of like a paid version of Wattpad or FictionPress but only with my own stories.

You’re probably wondering why in fresh hell I’d do that. Well, I’m a sucker for cliffhangers and sometimes I like reading things as they’re being written, and I figure some of you might like the same experience.

So why not do it for free then? Good question. The answer is hey, a girl’s gotta eat. If you’d prefer a more traditional reading experience, you may purchase my books individually here.

How can a person use this website?

  1. First, sign up for a membership, then login if you’re not already logged in. That’s the only way you can read my online novels.
  2. After that, head on over to My Novels and click around until you find whatever you’re looking for—usually that’s Chapter 01 of a story but I’ve been known to read the ending first, so you do you.
  3. Enjoy reading! It’s that easy!
